Post-Match Report
Facts: 15-0 shots on goal in the second 45 minutes
Best and second-best runners up: Following their victory over HSV, Borussia Dortmund now have 61 points to their name. Only once in Bundesliga history has a team in second place had more points at this stage of the season, and that was also Borussia Dortmund in 2015/16 (64).
Record: Since the statistic started being recorded in the 2020/21 season, no team has recorded a higher xGoals in a single match than Borussia Dortmund (6.24) – this is, of course, partly down to the three penalties.
Penalties: This is only the tenth time in Bundesliga history that a team has been awarded three penalties in a single match. The last time this happened was three years ago in the match between Mainz and Bielefeld. This is the first time BVB have been awarded three penalties in a Bundesliga match.
Missed: Felix Nmecha took his first Bundesliga penalty and missed. His miss was the 79th penalty missed in Borussia Dortmund’s history, which is a record that is shared with Bremen and Mönchengladbach.
Comeback: The last time the Black & Yellows won after trailing 0-2 at half-time was in Frankfurt four years ago, when they won 3-2 in January 2022.
Plenty of wins: BVB celebrated their 18th win of the season, so they have surpassed their total from the entire previous season.
From the spot: Ramy Bensebaini has converted all nine of his penalties in the Bundesliga (the first seven were when he was still at Mönchengladbach).
A first: Niko Kovac fielded the same starting XI as last weekend in the 2-0 win against Augsburg, meaning Borussia started with the same line-up in two consecutive competitive matches for the first time this season.
