World Cup update: emphatic 4-1 victory for Kobel and Switzerland

Switzerland took a big step towards qualifying for the knockout rounds of the FIFA World Cup. Their 4-1 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina meant Gregor Kobel could celebrate his first victory in the tournament and it also significantly improves Switzerland's position in Group B.

For a long time, the team struggled in attack and found the Bosnian defence a tough nut to crack. It was substitute Johan Manzambi who broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, before Granit Xhaka and further goals sealed what was ultimately a comfortable victory.

BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel played the full 90 minutes in the Swiss goal as usual and looked set to keep a clean sheet for a long time. It was not until the third minute of stoppage time that the keeper was finally beaten after parrying corner as Mahmic, who had come on as a substitute shortly before, scored with a first-time volley to make it 1-4. It was a powerful strike that Kobel had no chance of saving.

The next World Cup matches involving the Black & Yellows are already scheduled for Saturday (20 June) as Germany face Côte d’Ivoire in Group E (22:00 CEST), while Daniel Svensson and Sweden take on the Netherlands in Group F (19:00 CEST).

There she made 71 competitive appearances and won the German championship in 2015 and 2016. In 2019, she moved to Arsenal WFC. She made 143 appearances for the North London side, keeping a clean sheet in 73 of those matches. She capped her time at Arsenal by winning the UEFA Women\u2019s Champions League in 2025. Nevertheless, I\u2019m looking forward to my new challenge.<\/p>\nHow have you perceived the development of women\u2019s football at Borussia Dortmund in recent years? \n<\/b>I thought it was great that BVB started out in the district league. I think it\u2019s important and right not to buy their way into the regional league or something like that, but to start from the bottom just like any other club. That\u2019s what makes Borussia Dortmund special. They were promoted every year for the first four years. Unfortunately not this year, but that\u2019s just how it is in sport: sometimes there\u2019s a stumbling block in the way. Then you just have to take a little detour. Nevertheless, the progress has been outstanding and I\u2019m very happy to be able to continue on this path with Borussia Dortmund \u2013 even in the Regionalliga.<\/p>\nFour years ago you said: \u201cThat\u2019s just Borussia Dortmund.
