BVB women's team begin training
The BVB women started the 2024/25 season with 17 players, including nine of the ten new signings. Coach Thomas Sulewski welcomed Hedda Wahle, Sarah Giebels, Nora Willeke, Paula Reimann, Ann-Sophie Vogel, Angelina Weber, Madita Sommer, Nova Wicke and Finnja Schriek to the BVB Football Academy training ground in Rabenloh. Mia Böger was still away on holiday. "It's important for us that the girls get to know each other well, become a team, quickly understand our principles and game plan and bring it all onto the pitch," said Sulewski.
Four friendly matches and a preparation tournament are on the programme before the first competitive match on 18 August away to SV Herben in the Westfalenpokal. On 21 July, Hansa Rostock will visit Dortmund before the Westfalenliga club takes part in the well-attended Steka Cup a week later on 27 July. On 4 August, the Borussians will host 1. FC Magdeburg. To kick off the training camp in the Kitzbühel Alps (7 to 11 August), the BVB women will play against second-division Bayern Munich II at the Bayern Campus. The final rehearsal will then take place in Westendorf against the Austrian second-tier team Pinzgau Saalfelden.
The second team also boasts many new faces. It starts with the coaching team: Erfan Esmaily and Dominik Lang will take charge of the Black & Yellow Landesliga team. There are seven new players in the second team squad. Lotte Schnoor, Julia Cieslik, Line Mikloweit, Lea Rüskamp, Charlotte Weber, Rabea Haarmann and Liana Liepa. Lea Auffenberg, Lea Herper, Virginia Glänzer and Ana Schönenberg are joining from the first team. Sarah Duranville, Nelly Doronin and Chloe Campbell are moving up from the U17s. "I'm very positive that the new coaches will communicate their ideas well. They should quickly work out which way to go, how the roles are distributed and how they want to grow together,’ said Sulewski, who is also the sporting director of the BVB women.
When asked about the goals for the season, Sulewski gave a short and clear answer: ‘The aim is to achieve the greatest possible success with all teams." (df)
