Meyer extends until 2026

Alex Meyer will remain the No. 2 goalkeeper at Borussia Dortmund in the future. The 33-year-old has prematurely extended his contract with BVB until 30 June 2026.

"I'm delighted that we've been able to extend Alex's contract by a further year at an early stage. He's an outstanding goalkeeper, an absolute team player and an exemplary professional who gives everything in every training session, is always ready and performs when we need him. He also plays an important role in the dressing room with his positive manner and radiates leadership, calm and confidence. For us, Alex is the best second goalkeeper in the Bundesliga," said BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Last season, the 1.95-metre-tall Meyer made eight appearances in the Bundesliga and played one match in the UEFA Champions League for BVB.

Meyer declared: "I feel very comfortable in Dortmund and feel great appreciation from the management, the coaching staff, my team-mates, the staff members and our fans. For me, being able to wear the BVB shirt is still not something to be taken for granted. I'm therefore happy to be able to be a part of this club every day. We've already been rather successful over the course of the last two years, but my major objective is still to be able to celebrate a title with the BVB family at the Borsigplatz at the end of the season. That's what I'm working towards with my team-mates."
