Match Report
U23s win first friendly against Aplerbeck
BVB coach Jan Zimmermann chose to field five new signings in the first half and thus the following starting line-up: Ostrzinski – Bueno, Lelle, Lührs, Jessen – Roggow, Azhil, Elongo-Yombo, Foti, Hettwer - Paulina.
BVB went forward courageously from the start and created opportunities almost on a minutely basis. Julian Hettwer, Jordi Paulina and Rodney Elongo-Yombo had chances to open the scoring early on. But it was not until the 25th minute that Hettwer put the Black & Yellows 1-0 in front. BVB applied attacking pressure throughout the entirety of the first 45 minutes, while ASC attacks were mostly intercepted early on. The home team were fortunate to go in at half-time with a narrow 1-0 deficit; BVB could have led by significantly more.
Coach Jan Zimmermann was more than satisfied after the final whistle. "We played a really good game. We could have scored even more goals. We drew 1-1 last year. You could see that we've progressed significantly this year. The match vindicates our first days of training and whets the appetite for more."
