Table tennis players face challenge against Saarbrücken

On Matchday 6 of the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL), Borussia Dortmund's table tennis players will welcome 1. FC Saarbrücken to the Brügmann-Halle on Monday (19:00 CET). The reigning Champions League winners and German runners-up are currently in eighth place in the TTBL.

‘Before the season, I would have thought that Düsseldorf and Saarbrücken were unbeatable. Now I expect an open game and hope for the first home win in the Table Tennis Bundesliga," says team manager Evgeny Fadeev. What he means by this statement is that Saarbrücken have not lived up to expectations thus far, with just two wins from five games. The visitors' top player, Darko Jorgic, has a record of just one win and four losses in the current season. German international Patrick Franziska has also only won three of his five games. Japanese defender Yuto Muramatsu has a 2-2 record, while only Romanian youngster Eduard Ionescu has an unblemished 3-0 record.

"Lind and Li have developed very well in recent weeks, which is why spectators can look forward to top-class matches," added Fadeev. The Black & Yellow Lind beat world number one Wang Chuqin in the high-class China Smash and achieved a respectable success by reaching the quarter-finals, which catapulted him to world number 29. China's Yongyin Li is also having a strong season and has won five of his seven singles matches so far.

Revenge for cup defeat

The match against Saarbrücken is the second meeting between the clubs this season. In September, Borussia only narrowly missed out on causing a sensation in the cup. After victories by Li (against Franziska) and Nuytinck (against Muratmatsu) and defeats by Berglund (against Jorgic) and Li (against Jorgic), they lost the decisive doubles match after leading 6-2 in the deciding set. In contrast to the cup match, in which Anders Lind was missing, Fadeev and Qi will have the entire squad at their disposal on Monday.

Tickets available in the online shop

Tickets for the game on Monday (7pm) are still available via the online ticket shop.

Last-minute tickets will also be available at the box office on Monday. The match will also be broadcast live on Dyn, the TTBL's media partner. Click here for the broadcast.
