Pre-Match Report
Facts on the match against Freiburg: Statistics in Borussia's favour
The scenario: Seventh against fifth. A win would see BVB (16 points) move past the Breisgau club (17 points) in the table. Freiburg are winless in their last three matchdays (two draws and one defeat).
Home/away: Borussia Dortmund boast a flawless home record this season. All seven matches at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK have ended in victory; five of them have been in the Bundesliga, in which BVB are the only club yet to drop points at home and occupy first place in the home table. Freiburg have lost only one of their last four away matches (by a 3-1 scoreline in Leipzig on 26 October) and sit in seventh spot in the away table.
Head-to-head record: There have previously been 32 wins, 11 draws and five defeats against Sport-Club Freiburg. The Black & Yellows have only failed to score in two of their 48 meetings. 15 of the last 16 home matches have ended in victory (47-5 goals). The Baden outfit have won only one of their 24 away games in Dortmund. Borussia have come from behind to win seven times in this fixture – home and away; Freiburg have not lost more often to any other club after taking a 1-0 lead.
Statistics: BVB have only failed to find the net once so far (only Bayern have scored in every game) and no team has fielded more players under 21 (five). Only Dortmund and Freiburg have already been awarded three penalties this season. Sport-Club have lost only one of their last five league matches. They have started five of their last six Bundesliga matches with the same line-up.
Last season: BVB were highly efficient and converted their first two scoring chances in front of 81,365 spectators at a sold-out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Thanks to two assists by Niclas Füllkrug, Donyell Malen opened the scoring in the 16th minute and doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time to make it 2-0 at the break. It was one-way traffic in the second period, with plenty of creativity and pressure. Füllkrug headed home to make it 3-0 with three minutes of regular time remaining.
Biggest home win: On 28 September 2013, braces for Marco Reus and Robert Lewandowski were followed by a goal from Jakub Blaszczykowski to round off a 5-0 win.
