Post-Match Report

Nico Schlotterbeck: "An unbelievably bad game!"

"That was – apart from a few away games – one of the weakest performances that we've put in this season," said Nico Schlotterbeck, who also expressed other clear criticisms, following the 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim.

"We had an unbelievable number of possession losses and absolutely no clarity in our play, it was madness at times," said Schlotterbeck to DAZN shortly after the final whistle in the match. "We hardly got into the opposition half once in the second half, and this was the case in a home game that we needed to win to stay in touch. We played an unbelievably bad game. The goal we conceded following a throw-in cannot happen like that. But even if it had stayed at 1-0: the way that we played today – at times without energy – is not on."

The central defender clearly addressed the shortcomings in Borussia Dortmund's play and did not exclude himself. "This is inexplicable in a home game; we also addressed this at the half-time interval, but we didn't sort it out in the second period either. We are professional footballers. I expect a team to push themselves to the limit for 90 minutes four days after a match. We lost possession an unbelievable number of times, were untidy and unserious, and did not have any phases of possession. We're Borussia Dortmund. In a home game against Hoffenheim, where we have to stay in touch with the leaders, we have to win. I expect the lads to go fully to their limit – and we didn't do that today. That's why we only drew 1-1. If we'd won 1-0, it also would not have been a good performance and we would've also had to address it."

On the topic of the injury he suffered against Barcelona, Schlotterbeck said: "The ligaments are extremely strained. We need to see about next week. I'll put my foot up again now, hope it calms down by tomorrow and then try to play in Wolfsburg next Sunday."

Further reactions to follow in the course of the evening
