Champions and cup winners: These players will be involved in the farewell match
The following former and current Borussians will be playing in the farewell match:
- Sebastian Kehl will be playing in the farewell match for Kuba and Piszczek. The current sports director of Borussia Dortmund was out on the pitch in Black & Yellow from 2002 to 2015, won the Bundesliga in 2002 and 2011, and completed the league and cup double with BVB in 2012. Kehl celebrated the titles in 2011 and 2012 with Kuba and Piszczek, and together the three of them also reached the Champions League final in London in 2013.
- They used to be colleagues on the pitch, now they're colleagues on the bench. BVB head coach Nuri Sahin will also be playing in the farewell match for his current co-coach Lukasz Piszczek. Not only did Sahin play with Piszczu and Kuba for several years, but he also celebrated winning the Bundesliga with the two of them in 2011 - Sahin also won the German Cup with his co-coach in 2017.
- Marcel Schmelzer wore the BVB shirt for 17 years, ended his career in 2022 in Black & Yellow, and won the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012, as well as the German Cup in 2012, 2017 and 2021. From 2016 to 2018 he was captain of the first team.
- Kevin Großkreutz is also returning to play at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK for Kuba and Piszczu. The born and bred Dortmunder was also part of the team that won the Bundesliga and the Cup in the 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 seasons, before leaving BVB in 2015.
- Roman Weidenfeller played for Borussia Dortmund from 2002 to 2018, during which time he was the backbone of the Black & Yellow goal. The 2014 World Cup winner won the Bundesliga with Blaszczykowski and Piszczek in 2011 and 2012, as well as the German Cup in 2012.
- Patrick Owomoyela played for BVB from 2008 to 2013, primarily playing as right back, and nowadays can mostly be seen working on camera for BVB. He won the Bundesliga with Kuba and Piszczu in 2011 and 2021, as well as the German Cup in 2012.
- Dede, who started for BVB from 1998 to 2011, became a Black & Yellow legend in his position as left back. In the last few years of his career in Dortmund, he played for BVB alongside Jakub Blaszczykowski, who joined BVB in 2007.
- Moritz Leitner wore the Borussia Dortmund shirt from 2011 to 2016, though he was intermittently on loan. During that time he played with Kuba and Piszczek, and in 2012 won both the Bundesliga and the German Cup with them.
- Florian Kringe, who played for several spells at BVB between 2001 and 2012, was part of the team that won the Bundesliga in 2011, and lifted the trophy with Kuba and Piszczu at the end of the season.
- Mohamed Zidan was also part of the team that won the Bundesliga in 2011. He was under contract at BVB from 2008 to 2012. The striker also played with Piszczek and Kuba in the first half of the 2011/2012 season when they won the Bundesliga, before he left BVB.
- Neven Subotic was at the centre of the Borussia Dortmund defence from 2008 to 2017, and won the Bundesliga twice (2011 and 2012), as well as the German Cup in 2012.
- Antonio da Silva strengthened the BVB midfield from 2010 to 2012 and often proved to be a decisive card to play. During this time he also played with Kuba and Piszczek, and twice celebrated winning the Bundesliga with them (2011, 2012).
