Barrios and Mkhitaryan to take part in testimonial
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, 35, played alongside Kuba and Piszczu after moving to BVB in 2013. He stayed in Dortmund for three years and impressed the fans with his fine ball control and numerous goals. Off the pitch, the Armenian soon surprised fans with his German language skills. The ten-time Footballer of the Year in Armenia was voted the best player of the 2015/16 season by his fellow professionals and categorised as "World Class" by kicker magazine.
Lucas Barrios, 39, also played alongside both Kuba and Piszczu. BVB brought the panther from South American to Dortmund in 2009. He came to the Ruhr region with a record of 37 goals in 38 games, the most top-flight goals in the calendar year worldwide, and continued to rack up goals in Black & Yellow. His 19 goals in the 2009/2010 season put him in third place in the top scorers' list. Barrios played for BVB for three years, during which time he celebrated two league titles and won the DFB-Pokal. “It was the best time of my career,” he says in retrospect.
BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl, head coach Nuri Sahin and former players Marcel Schmelzer, Kevin Grosskreutz, Roman Weidenfeller, Patrick Owomoyela, Dede, Moritz Leitner, Florian Kringe, Mohamed Zidan, Neven Subotic, Antonio da Silva, Ebi Smolarek, Mladen Petric, Tinga, Julian Schieber and Sokratis have already confirmed their participation in the testimonial match. Further players and coaches from both teams will be announced in the next few days.
