Preventing violence against women: BVB support Orange Days
Last Saturday, Borussia Dortmund together with VfB Stuttgart board member Alexander Wehrle and the Union of German Zonta clubs, again stood up against gender-based violence during their Bundesliga homegame in SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, participating again in the “Zonta Says No” campaign.
In addition to clearly stating their position on the sidelines and on the advertising boards, a representative of local Zonta club Dortmund also spoke with Norbert Dickel before kick-off about the great significance of raising awareness about this issue.
Why is this work so important?
In Germany, one in three women experiences physical and/or sexual violence at least once in her life – which is more than 12 million women. Also, over half of all women avoid certain places after dark and feel unsafe. All of this demonstrates that violence against women is an omnipresent phenomenon and not a marginal one, which only occurs in certain circles.
Borussia Dortmund provide more information about their commitment and methods for protection and prevention on a separate Website.
Background
Since 2012, “Zonta Says NO” has served as the umbrella organisation of Zonta International's “Orange The World” activities of 1100 Zonta clubs in 63 countries worldwide, and also 136 Zonta clubs with approximately 4000 members in Germany. Since 2013, the campaign has supported the United Nations' “Orange The World” 16 days of activism, which takes place annually from 25 November tot 10 December.
At the same time, Zonta also supports projects on a local level to combat and prevent violence against women and girls.
More information about the campaign is available on the website of Zonta.
