Tullberg to become new U23 coach in the summer

Mike Tullberg will become the new coach of the Borussia Dortmund U23s next season. The current boss of the BVB U19s will succeed Jan Zimmermann, who is leaving the Black & Yellows in the summer. As part of his appointment as U23 head coach, Tullberg has extended his contract with BVB until 30 June 2028.

"We are delighted to present Mike Tullberg as our new U23 coach and are convinced that he will use his knowledge and experience to coach and develop the young talents in the U23s and prepare them for professional football in the best-possible way. Mike closely identifies with Borussia Dortmund and has an impressive track record with our U19s. We are delighted to continue to have him as part of our coaching staff and are looking ahead to next season with confidence," said Borussia Dortmund's Managing Director of Sport Lars Ricken.

Tullberg has been at BVB since 2019. He coached the U23s in his first season, before taking over the U19s and leading them to three West German Championship title and one German Championship title (2022) in the following seasons. During the current campaign, the Dane was appointed as the coach of Borussia Dortmund's senior squad on an interim basis and led the team to two wins and a draw in the Bundesliga and Champions League before handing over to Niko Kovac and returning to the U19s.

Tullberg said: "I am very pleased that I will continue to be a part of BVB in the future and that we have agreed on a premature extension until 2028. That makes me proud. I can completely identify with the club and my family feels extremely at home in the region. I have experienced many special moments as a coach at Borussia Dortmund in recent years and I am highly motivated to have a successful collaboration with our U23s from next season onwards and to help facilitate the development of our talented youngsters in my new position."
