From opponents to guests: BVB invites fans from rival Club World Cup teams to Dortmund

The Club World Cup is fast-approaching, and Borussia Dortmund has taken the opportunity to invite the fans of the three other teams in the group to Dortmund ahead of the competition. Fans of Fluminense (Brazil), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and Ulsan HD (South Korea) visited Dortmund for a weekend in May. The aim of the visit was to give fans an insight into football culture at Dortmund and strengthen international exchange.

The invited fans - Eliza Ranieri and Vitória Lima (Fluminense), DJ Naves and Lunga Mlandu (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Soyeon Lee and Yisoo Kim (Ulsan HD) - spent three days in Dortmund. In addition to a stadium tour of SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, they also visited the BORUSSEUM and the FanWelt. Later on, there was a special meet and greet at the BVB Evonik football academy, where EMMA met the South Korean club mascot Mita. The fans were also able to enjoy new culinary experiences: at a “Currywurst and beer tasting” session they were able to try some local Dortmund delicacies.

A particular highlight for the international visitors was a meet and greet with two BVB first team players: the Fluminense and Ulsan fans met Yan Couto, while the Mamelodi Sundowns fans got to know Pascal Groß. The fans were able to ask the players questions in an informal setting. As a special gesture, the fans also gave the players shirts from their respective clubs.

The cherry on the cake was experiencing SIGNAL IDUNA PARK as spectators: the Fluminense and Ulsan fans cheered for BVB on the 32nd match day against VfL Wolfsburg, and experienced the Yellow Wall for the first time. Two weeks later, the Sundowns fans watched the last home game of the season against Holstein Kiel, and for one half even got to experience the captivating atmosphere up close from the Südtribüne.
