BVB en route to the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA
Since the beginning of the week, the players and staff have been adjusting to the Eastern Daylight Time zone (Florida is six hours behind German time). Following consultations with the medical department, they have gradually pushed back their sleep schedules. Training sessions in Dortmund have also been held later in the day. “We’re trying to go to bed later. We’re trying to have breakfast and lunch later so that we can adapt to the rhythm faster and minimise the adjustment period,” said BVB coach Niko Kovac earlier this week.
All the players in the squad (see overview) were on board the flight to the USA, with the exception of Gregor Kobel. The goalkeeper was already in the United States with the Switzerland national team and travelled individually to Florida. Upon landing, his team-mates will head to the hotel, before taking part in an activation session and then concluding the arrival day with a team dinner.
BVB will kick off their tournament campaign on Tuesday with a match against Fluminense (12:00 / 18:00 CEST) at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Their other group stage opponents are Mamelodi Sundowns (21 June, 12:00 / 18:00 CEST) and Ulsan HD (15:00 / 21:00 CEST). Both of those matches will take place at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.
