Pre-Match Report

In the round of 16 against Monterrey: Pascal Gross expects a “very intense game”

Waldemar Anton and Pascal Gross responded to questions at the team hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Both players revealed what they got up to on their day off and their expectations for the round of sixteen game against Mexican team Monterrey. Naturally Monterrey’s captain Sergio Ramos also has a role to play.

Midfielder Pascal Gross is glad that “the knockout phase is finally starting. We have an interesting opponent and I hope that we make it through.” On Wednesday (2.7, 3:00 CEST), Borussia Dortmund will be playing in the round of sixteen of the FIFA Club World Cup against Mexican team CF Monterrey. “I think they will play very aggressively, seek out a lot of one-on-one tackles, and then try to counterattack. We need to hold our own, that will be very important. Maybe in a similar way to the game against Fluminense, it will be a very intense game. But if we can hold our own, we can capitalise on our footballing abilities.”

Centre-back Waldemar Anton added: “We need to be on it from the very beginning. And I think that’s the key: to put our opponents under pressure immediately, to use our chances, and of course to work together.” The squad are currently preparing for the game against the Mexican team: “It won’t be an easy game. I think they are a very robust and tough team.”
