BVB players back on the pitch, returnee in fitness training

The ball is in motion again: Borussia Dortmund's first team have returned to training two weeks after their Bundesliga match against Holstein Kiel and 11 days prior to their departure to the FIFA Club World Cup.

Maximilian Beier was on the training ground in Dortmund-Brackel long before his team-mates on Monday afternoon. The Borussia forward, who missed the Bundesliga season run-in due to injury, trained individually with the ball and worked towards his comeback in what were optimal weather conditions.

However, the attacking player was still absent from the subsequent team training session, as were Niklas Süle (illness) and the 12 Borussia players who are currently away on international duty. Instead, BVB coach Niko Kovac welcomed youngsters Ayman Azhil, Elias Benkara, Tony Reitz, Mussa Kaba, Samuele Inacio, Nick Cherny, Ousmane Diallo and Mathis Albert to the training pitch.

The Black & Yellows began their first training session ahead of the Club World Cup with sprinting and passing drills, before Kovac divided his players into two teams and pitted them against each other on a small pitch. Over the coming days, Dortmund will continue to prepare for their group games against Fluminense, Mamelodi Sundowns and Ulsan HD, before setting off for the USA on 13 June.

All information about the Club World Cup (tickets, all matches live and free of charge on DAZN) can be found at bvb.de/cwc. The BVB app (for download) is also the mobile matchday companion from the USA for all BVB fans.
