Sabitzer scores for Austria – BVB internationals enjoy success

Marcel Sabitzer put in an impressive performance on Saturday evening, scoring in the Austrian national team’s 2-1 win against Romania, and was an important factor in Austria’s win over 90 minutes. Gregor Kobel, Julian Ryerson and Daniel Svensson also celebrated victories with their national teams.

In the opening match of the World Cup qualifiers in Group H, Sabitzer increased Austria’s lead to 2-0 in the 60th minute. Having been found by Schmid, he skilfully teed himself up and volleyed the ball towards goal, and his deflected shot gave the goalkeeper no chance. In injury time, he almost celebrated his second goal, but he was denied a brace by the offside flag.

Gregor Kobel also scored for the Swiss national team in the first of two friendly matches on the USA Tour on Saturday evening. Murat Yakin’s team beat Mexico 4-2 In Salt Lake City.

Two more BVB players had already taken to the pitch for their national teams on Friday – and also enjoyed success: Julian Ryerson’s Norway won 3-0 against Italy. The full-back was on the pitch for the full match and played a big part in his side’s strong defensive performance. Daniel Svensson came on in the 63rd minute of Sweden’s 2-0 away win in Hungary and helped bring his side’s lead over the finish line.

On Sunday afternoon, a Germany team including Pascal Groß, Karim Adeyemi, Waldemar Anton and Felix Nmecha face a tough challenge as Germany face France in the 3rd place play-off in the Nations League. Kick-off is at 15:00 CET in the MHP Arena in Stuttgart.
