BVB legends lose semi-final of “SOCCER7sSeries”

On the third day of the “SOCCER7sSeries” in Singapore, the BVB legends were unsuccessful in reaching the final. In their semi-final against COSMO Masters, the team coached by Jörg Heinrich and Norbert Dickel narrowly lost 0-1 in extra time on Sunday morning (6:35 CEST).

As captain, Kevin Großkreutz led the Black&Yellows onto the pitch. The closely contested first half remained goalless. In the second half, both teams also put up a fight with few clear chances. Mladen Petric had the best shot on goal, narrowly missing after a sharp cross by Großkreutz.

It was 0-0 at full time, meaning the game went to extra time. At first, both teams played four against four. Since neither team managed to score in this phase either, the game then went to three against three.

Then came the crucial moment of the game: Kevin Großkreutz took a shot from a central position, but Jan Koller got in the way and stopped the ball from going in. Shortly afterwards, the tables turned in favour of the opposition: Samuel Taylor of COSMO Masters put the ball in the net to make the final score 0-1.

Despite being knocked out, the BVB legends can look back on what has been a strong tournament: after four wins in four group stage games, BVB were the uncontested winners of Group B in the “SOCCER7sSeries”, reaching the semi-final in style.
