BVB women lose to Hansa Rostock in first friendly
Lisa Gomulka fired the first shot on goal in the 10th minute, but it landed in the arms of Rostock goalkeeper Lara Mariuta-Schukat. Borussia then piled on the pressure, but the visitors from the Baltic Sea scored the first goal through Vanessa Rist (23). However, the Black & Yellows didn't let their heads drop and were able to equalise through Marie Grothe (26) after a corner to make it 1-1.
New signing Sarah Giebels then bagged a brace on her debut for the club. In the 34th minute, she got the better of Mariuta-Schukat in the penalty area to give BVB a 2-1 lead, before increasing it to 3-1 two minutes later (36). Shortly before the break, Rist again took advantage of a lapse in concentration in the Dortmund defence and pulled the score back to within a goal at 3-2 (43).
The Hanseatic side came back out of the break and equalised in the 49th minute to make it 3-3, while Dortmund's Marah Tayeh had another effort on goal in the 75th minute, but it rattled out off the crossbar. Shortly before the final whistle, Julia Heinschel scored the all-important final goal for Rostock to secure a 4-3 win in the 85th minute.
"It was a good first test after a good first week of training. All the players got to play. Overall, the first half was much better than the second. The goals we conceded were all unfortunate and self-inflicted. Nevertheless, we can take a lot from the game and work on it straight away tomorrow," said BVB coach Thomas Sulewski in his post-match summary.
The next friendly for the BVB women will take place on 4 August against 1. FC Magdeburg. Kick-off at the Wischlinger Weg Sportplatz is scheduled for 17:30 CEST.
