First team training session under Nuri Sahin
Goals, poles, bibs and, of course, balls - Sahin and his assistant coaches Joao Tralhao, Ertugrul Arslan and Lukasz Piszczek had everything ready when the BVB players took to the pitch. 22 outfield players and two goalkeepers were part of the training group, including professionals Alex Meyer, Niklas Süle, Julian Ryerson, Julian Brandt, Felix Nmecha, Karim Adeyemi, Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Kjell Wätjen, Julien Duranville, Youssoufa Moukoko and Sebastien Haller. Returning players Tom Rothe and Soumaila Coulibay were also back on the pitch in Dortmund. As the internationals are not expected back until the end of July, the group was supplemented by players from the U23 and U19 squads. Ramy Bensebaini completed an individual session in the athletics centre. Julian Brandt wore his new number 10 on the training pitch for the first time.
After a speech and a warm-up with sprinting exercises, Sahin asked his players to practise passing. The programme then included various game forms. In between, the coach brought his players together at the tactics board before the session, which lasted just over an hour, concluded with six small goals.
The second training session of the day will follow in the afternoon. The first test match of preseason will take place on Friday, when BVB face a selection of amateur footballers in the DEW dream match in Holzwickede (kick-off 18:00 CEST, live on BVB-TV and Sky). (cr)
