Franz Pfanne moves to Hansa Rostock

U23 captain Franz Pfanne is leaving Borussia Dortmund at his own request and moving to league rivals Hansa Rostock. Pfanne became BVB's record appearance-maker in the 3. Liga last season.

The Saxony native joined BVB from SV Rödinghausen in the summer of 2020 and gained promotion to the 3. Liga with the U23s, whom he captained as an experienced player, in his first season. In total, Pfanne made 39 appearances in the Regionalliga West for the Black & Yellows. In addition, he played 102 matches in the 3. Liga in the following three seasons. No other BVB player has made more appearances in the third-highest tier of German football. Pfanne notched eight goals and five assists across his 141 appearances.

Franz Pfanne said: "It was a wonderful four years. I felt very comfortable at the club and am very grateful to the management that they did not lay any obstacles in the way of my future career."

"The request came as quite a surprise after he had extended his contract only a matter of weeks ago. However, we can understand his reasons and have decided to honour his request. We would like to thank Franz for his time at BVB," said Ingo Preuß, the sporting director of the U23s.
