Match facts for BVB's visit to Bayern Munich
The scenario: First against second. After six matchdays, FC Bayern have a flawless record of six wins, while BVB are the only other club in the league to remain undefeated (four wins, two draws).
Home & away: Since their 3-2 defeat at the hands of VfL Bochum on 8 March, Munich have gone unbeaten at home and have only dropped points in one of their following seven home games across both seasons (a 2-2 draw with BVB in April). Borussia Dortmund have been unbeaten on the road since their 2-0 defeat in Leipzig on 15 March, winning five of their next seven away games across both seasons, while drawing in Munich (2-2) and away to FC St. Pauli at the start of the current season.
Head-to-head record: BVB have picked up points in three consecutive Bundesliga matches against Bayern for the first time since 2013 (a 2-0 win in Munich, a 1-1 draw in Dortmund, a 2-2 draw in Munich). Against no other opponent have the Black & Yellows failed to score a goal as many times as against Bayern (33), but conversely, no other Bundesliga team have managed to keep as many clean sheets against the Munich club (23).
Statistics: Bayern Munich have won each of their ten competitive matches this season. Their total of 25 goals scored after six Bundesliga matchdays is a new record. The Munich side have also taken the most shots on goal and have the best finishing efficiency. Defensively, both clubs are on a par (three and four goals conceded respectively) – Bayern have the lowest opposition xGoals value (3.7, BVB 5.4). Borussia have conceded the fewest shots on goal (55, compared to Bayern's 57).
Last season: Just under 9,000 Black & Yellow fans among the 75,000 spectators at the Allianz Arena saw their team earn a well-deserved point. BVB started the match very well, coming close to landing the first blow – Julian Brandt struck the side netting in the seventh minute – but then failed to play with enough precision. Bayern grew stronger and stronger, and in the final stages of the first half, Gregor Kobel prevented his team from falling behind twice. Instead, Maxi Beier scored two minutes after the restart to make it 1-0 in a match that rightly lived up to its headline billing in the second half. Within four minutes, Raphael Guerreiro (65) and Serge Gnabry (69) put Munich 2-1 ahead, before Waldemar Anton made it 2-2 with a quarter of an hour to go.
Biggest away win: BVB have won 3-0 away to Bayern on two occasions: first on 12 October 1991 thanks to goals from Michael Rummenigge (25) and Flemming Povlsen (47) as well as an own goal from FCB keeper Gerald Hillringhaus (87) at the Olympic Stadium. Then on 2 April 2014 at the Allianz Arena, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan (20), Marco Reus (49) and Jonas Hofmann (56) scoring the goals.
