No losses: BVB looking to extend winning streak against Heidenheim
Scenario: The second-placed team will face the bottom-placed team. Heidenheim have not won any of their last six Bundesliga matches (two draws, four defeats). Borussia Dortmund have the longest unbeaten run of any team. Since suffering their only defeat away to Bayern Munich (2-1) in mid-October, they have recorded eight wins and four draws in 12 matches. In each of their four Bundesliga matches in 2026, BVB have scored exactly three goals.
Home & away: With seven wins and two draws, BVB are also second in the home table, but have played one game fewer at their own stadium than Bayern Munich (eight wins, one draw, one defeat). 1. FC Heidenheim picked up four of their 13 points away from home – and these have come in their last four away games (a 2-1 win at Union, a 1-1 draw in Wolfsburg).
Statistics: 42 points after 19 matchdays is BVB's best haul in seven years (since 2018/19). Defensively, BVB are on a par with Bayern, with 17 goals conceded and have even kept the most clean sheets overall: with ten clean sheets after 19 matchdays, they have equalled the club record set in the 1994/95 title-winning season. The club record for a full season is 15 games without conceding a goal (2011/12 and 2019/20). Heidenheim are the complete opposite: they have not kept a clean sheet, have conceded 42 goals and allowed 290 shots, all of which are Bundesliga lows. However, Heidenheim are bottom of the table for the eighth time this season – in their seven previous games at the bottom, FCH have picked up eight points (two wins, two draws, three defeats) – more than in their other twelve games (five points).
Head-to-head: 1. FC Heidenheim are the only current Bundesliga club that Borussia Dortmund have never lost to. After two draws in the first two matches of the 2023/24 season, there have been three wins in a row. BVB have never been behind in this fixture. FCH have scored four of their five goals against BVB at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK (2-2 and 4-2).
Personnel matters: Maximilian Beier scored his first Bundesliga goal against Heidenheim (for Hoffenheim in August 2023); Beier has scored more often against FCH than against any other team (three times in five games).
Style of play: Heidenheim's greatest offensive strength is their super sub Stefan Schimmer, who has the most goals off the bench in the league. He has scored a total of five goals, almost a third of Heidenheim's 17 goals this season. Only two teams have had more efforts from crosses (45), and only four teams have been more successful on the counter-attack (three goals, the same as BVB).
Last season: On 13 September 2024, 81,365 spectators at a sold-out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK saw a determined BVB side take a 2-0 lead after just 16 minutes through goals from Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi. The response to Marvin Pieringer's goal in the 39th minute took less than 120 seconds: Adeyemi scored his second goal to make it 3-1 at half-time. After the break, BVB came close to scoring a fourth goal on several occasions, but conceded a second goal from the penalty spot: with a quarter of an hour to go, the match was wide open again at 3-2. But in stoppage time, Emre Can converted a penalty after a handball to make it 4-2.
