Borussia Dortmund academy product Tobias Raschl is set to join league rivals Greuther Fürth with immediate effect. The 21-year-old completed a medical check with his new employer this Monday.

"I'd like to thank all the club officials, coaches, team-mates and fans for our years together and the development I've undergone in Dortmund. For me, the time has come to take the next step in my sporting career. I hope we'll all see each other again. The years I spent with BVB will always be an unforgettable time for me," said Raschl.

In 2019, the midfielder captained the Dortmund U19s to the German title. He then signed a professional contract and made his Bundesliga debut in a BVB shirt in a home game against TSG Hoffenheim in 2020. The period that followed saw Tobias Raschl's attempts to break into the Bundesliga squad repeatedly thwarted by injury setbacks. With the U23 side, however, he has established himself as a permanent fixture and has made 22 third-tier appearances this season for coach Enrico Maassen's team, notching three goals and three assists.

"Tobias moved to Dortmund at the age of 15. He became a true Black & Yellow, led our U19s to the championship and was always a role model in terms of reliability. Tobias might not have broken into our senior team to the extent we'd all hoped for, but he undoubtedly has the necessary attributes for a wonderful career. With this in mind, we supported him when he came to us several days ago and expressed the wish to leave BVB for Greuther Fürth half a year before his BVB contract expires in order to establish himself there," said Sebastian Kehl, who is head of the licensed player department.

Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the terms of the transfer.
