It is news almost ten million Borussia Dortmund fans have been waiting for: highly sought-after Germany international Marco Reus today extended his contract at the eight-time German champions until 30 June 2019.
Marco Reus (169 Bundesliga appearances / 70 goals) is rated as one of the world’s finest attacking midfielders and is a firm fixture in the German national side (23 caps / 7 goals).
„I am delighted to commit my future to BVB. Dortmund is my home town and Borussia is my club. I am looking forward to a successful future with our team and our fantastic fans behind us. There is a lot of work to be done and I want to pitch in and play my part,“ Reus emphasised in an initial statement after signing the contract.
„We refused to believe all the transfer rumours and always felt there was a good chance that this extraordinary player would commit his future to BVB,“ said Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. „Marco can define an era in Dortmund as Uwe Seeler did in Hamburg or Steven Gerrad in Liverpool. The fact that Marco made this decision in the midst of a sporting crisis at BVB shows how much he identifies with the club and that makes us very proud.“
„Marco Reus could have joined almost any of the world’s top clubs. His decision shows that his heart beats for his home town and his home club. He is a very important cornerstone of Borussia Dortmund’s sporting future,“ underlined sporting director Michael Zorc.
