Interview

Maximilian Beier: "I'm looking forward to the stadium most of all"

In his first interview as a Borusse, new signing Maximilian Beier revealed what kind of player he is, with whom he has already been in contact and what the coach expects from him.

What motivated you to join BVB?
"The fact that we share the same objectives. We want to compete for titles and win titles every season. It fits."

What are you looking forward to the most?
"The stadium with 80,000 spectators. It was brutally loud. You almost can't hear yourself speak. When everyone is then shouting for me, that gives me a huge push."

Who have you been in contact with in the team?
"Nico Schlotterbeck wrote to me today and congratulated me on the move: 'I'm happy that you're here. See you tomorrow.'"

What have you discussed with the coach?
"Offensively, I can play in every position, and I can be deployed flexibly. The coach simply wants me to play my game, look for the spaces in behind up front and work hard off the ball."

What type of player are you, what can the BVB fans look forward to?
"Pace and attacking momentum, the fact that I work hard off the ball. I work a lot defensively and also do a lot of back-tracking for the team."

You come across as a very calm. Does that change on the pitch?
"I'm not the loudest on the pitch either but when I give instructions, then it's clear. That's when the emotions rise up and things start to get going."
