U23s to host 1860 Munich – Zimmermann counting on home strength

Things have not been going entirely smoothly away from home for Borussia's amateurs this season – a good thing, then, that their next outing is on home turf at the Rote Erde. The Black & Yellows will play host to TSV 1860 Munich at 14:00 CEST on Saturday afternoon (live on Magenta TV). Coach Jan Zimmermann is counting on home advantage, with his team still unbeaten in front of their own supporters.

BVB personnel: Niklas Jessen is doubtful following his injury in the game against Essen. It otherwise remains to be seen how the cooperation with the first team, who are in Bundesliga action against VfL Bochum on Friday evening, will impact the composition of the squad.

Stats and facts on the opposition: 1860 have come alive in this still young third-division season just in time for Munich's Oktoberfest. The tradition-steeped club from the south have leapfrogged BVB thanks to two victories in the current English week and now occupy 10th position. There have been dreams of a return to the second tier at Grünwalder Straße for years, but the reality is different. Last season, 1860 finished 15th in the table and narrowly staved off relegation to the Regionalliga. The club have also had to overcome a huge overhaul this season, with 21 players departing. With that in mind, the difficult start to the season has not been surprising – but the Black & Yellows should be wary given the results from the English week so far.

Head-to-head record: There have only been six meetings between the two teams in the 3. Liga, which have resulted in three Dortmund wins, one draw and two Munich victories. But recent results have been in Dortmund's favour, with 1860 last winning on 14 May 2022.

Outlook: "The second period against Essen gives me a good feeling. The boys are clear, we will have a good final training session and then go into the game focused. We can expect a lively opponent with a lot of self-confidence. We will need to respond with good solutions in order to pose them problems. We did not punish the opposition's mistakes against Essen and at the same time we were punished for ours. We need to reverse those roles in order to compete in this tight league. We feel very comfortable at home and want to show that again this time," said coach Jan Zimmermann, who is looking forward to the upcoming home game.

The stadium will open at 12:30 CEST. Tickets are available via the Online Ticket Shop or the ticket office at a price of €10 for a seat and €5 for a standing place.
