General meeting elects Hans-Joachim Watzke as BVB president

Hans-Joachim Watzke was elected as the 19th president of Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e.V. Dortmund by the general meeting this Sunday afternoon. The 66-year-old had previously resigned from his position as chairman of the management board of Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. KGaA. Watzke succeeds Dr Reinhold Lunow, 72, as club president, who had decided not to stand for re-election.

As president of the club, Watzke wants to “maintain dialogue between everyone” and “be a president for all Borussia fans — united, trustworthy and forward-looking.” He announced the convening of a “balanced constitutional committee” and “the further professionalisation of the club”, called for “even more women in positions of responsibility” and made a commitment to both competitive and recreational sports departments.
