Eurowings unveil new BVB team Airbus

The new Eurowings team airbus is now in operation. It will transport Borussia Dortmund to numerous away matches.

At the official unveiling at the paint shop at Münster/Osnabrück Airport, the Eurowings Airbus A320 ‘D-AEWM’ was presented in a new Black & Yellow design and also celebrated a world premiere: the 'BVB09' lettering running across the entire aircraft is in a very special matt paint that is being used for the first time in civil aviation. BVB fans were able to get a first impression of the new team airbus at a launch event - and then fly ‘home’ to Dortmund in the freshly painted A320.

The team airbus - an eye-catcher at Europe's airports

The first version of the team airbus, which celebrated its premiere in 2016, already attracted attention beyond the football world. The BVB Airbus, completely decked out in Black & Yellow, was a highlight at airports - and at times the most photographed aircraft in Europe. In 2022, Eurowings even became the first airline in the world to dedicate its own aircraft to millions of football fans: BVB fans were actively involved in the design of the ‘Fan Airbus’ and were able to help decide which moments and personalities from BVB's history should be immortalised on the aircraft.

"The new team airbus will not only inspire our team, but above all the fans, and will once again be an eye-catching sight at airports throughout Europe," says BVB managing director Carsten Cramer. "We are not only taking on a pioneering role in terms of design, but also in terms of sustainability: we are the first club in the Bundesliga to promote innovative fuel technologies and reduce our CO2 emissions on domestic flights by using 100% SAF."

"We are proud of the fact that BVB and ourselves are among the most emotive and popular brands in our respective industries," said Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof. "Together we share a team spirit and the sporting ambition to be among the best. That's why we are delighted to be able to continue to support and inspire Borussia Dortmund with the new team airbus in a state-of-the-art design."
