Chukwuemeka signs long-term deal

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea. The 21-year-old, who played for BVB on loan in the second half of last season and during the FIFA Club World Cup, has now signed a permanent contract with the eight-time German champions until 30 June 2030.

“It was important for us to further improve the quality and creativity we have in attacking midfield. We are delighted that we have been able to secure the long-term services of such a talented player as Carney and can now work together on his development,” said Borussia Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken.

“Carney has enormous potential, which he has already demonstrated with us in the second half of the season. He can make the difference by repeatedly finding solutions in tight spaces and gives us an additional footballing element in midfield that will do us a lot of good,” says BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Chukwuemeka made 17 competitive appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season (one goal) and will keep “his” shirt number 17. He says: “It feels really good to now be an integral part of BVB. I’ve got to know this club, the manager, my teammates and the fans over the past few months and I’m just happy that Dortmund is now my new footballing home. I will give everything to ensure that we achieve our goals as a team.”
