The Black and Yellow Schedule for October

In October, the BVB first team faces many pivotal challenges across all three competitions, with seven official matches in 22 days on the schedule. The Borussia Dortmund women’s handball team also has important matches ahead, as does the U19 squad, which faces FC Schalke in the Revierderby. Here are the highlights of a jam-packed October.

Sunday, 4 October (15:30 CET, live on Pluto TV): DJK Südwest Köln vs. BVB Women
With a perfect record of 18 points from six games and a goal differential of 26–0, things couldn’t be going much better for the BVB Women in the Regionalliga West so far. Four more matchdays are on the schedule for head coach Markus Högner’s team in October. First up for the BVB Women on 4 October is a trip to face DJK Südwest Köln. Unlike Borussia Dortmund, the Cologne-based team is still waiting for its first win of the season. The Black and Yellows are therefore clear favorites—just as they are in their other October matches against Rhenania Bottrop (11 Oct.), Vorwärts Spoho Köln (18 Oct..), and SGS Essen II (25 Oct.).

Wednesday, 7 October (19:30 CET, Dyn and sporteurope.tv): BVB Women’s Handball vs. Buxtehuder SV
The Dortmund women’s handball team has gotten off to a perfect start in the Alsco Women’s Handball Bundesliga, winning all four of its season games so far before the international break. Along with its fellow undefeated rivals, HSG Blomberg/Lippe and Thüringer HC, BVB sits at the top of the standings and aims to build on its great start. Their opponent on Matchday 5 will be Buxtehuder SV, which has won two of its four matches so far. The game will be played at the Wellinghofen Sports Hall.

Friday, 9 October (20:30 CET, live on Sky): BVB vs. Werder Bremen
Following the international break, BVB and Werder Bremen will kick off Matchday 5 of the Bundesliga. The team under head coach Niko Kovac enters the match as the league leader. It’s an excellent starting position that the Black and Yellows have earned with four wins in four Bundesliga matches. Werder also arrives at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK with momentum: The Bremen side has picked up a strong seven points from its last three games. For the first time since his return to Bremen, former BVB forward Niclas Füllkrug will face his old club.

Wednesday, 14 October (21:00 CET, DAZN): FK Bodø/Glimt vs. BVB
October 14 marks the start of a crazy week of away games for BVB! In just six days, Borussia Dortmund will play three away matches—spread across the continent. The “Bodø, Berlin, Baku” away trio kicks off in Norway, where the Black and Yellows will once again face FK Bodø/Glimt. The two teams already faced off last season during the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Back then, BVB surprisingly dropped two points in a 2–2 draw. Saturday, 17 October (15:30 CET, Sky): 1. FC Union Berlin vs. BVB
Head coach Niko Kovac’s squad will then head to the capital on Saturday for their next Bundesliga away game. Caution is definitely warranted against 1. FC Union Berlin: Although Borussia won 3–0 in their last away game at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in January of this year, BVB has also returned from Köpenick as the losing team four times since 2019.

Tuesday, 20 October (18:45 CET, DAZN): Sabah FK vs. BVB
To round out their three-game away stretch in six days, Borussia Dortmund is heading out on a truly long journey. Azerbaijani champions Sabah FK will host BVB on October 20 for Matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage. The club plays its home games in the Champions League at the Baku National Stadium in the capital. Baku and Dortmund are over 3,400 kilometers apart as the crow flies. It’s a true Champions League adventure for BVB against an opponent that suffered a 0–4 thrashing at Manchester United to kick off the group stage.

Saturday, 24 October (18:30 CET, Sky): BVB vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
Matchday 7 of the current Bundesliga season means another top match for BVB on Saturday evening. Eintracht Frankfurt will take the field at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Last season, Borussia Dortmund engaged in thrilling showdowns with the Eagles, most recently securing the points in Dortmund with a spectacular 3–2 home victory on the penultimate matchday of the 2025–26 season. Frankfurt has had a mixed start to the new season and is aiming for an upset victory against BVB.

Sunday, 25 October (11 CET): FC Schalke 04 U19 vs. U19
The second matchup between the U19s and their local rivals from Gelsenkirchen promises to be another thrilling encounter. BVB narrowly won the first leg in August 1-0 and has kept FC Schalke at bay in the DFB Youth League ever since. The Black and Yellows are looking to secure more crucial points to qualify for the main round of the German U19 Championship.
