Pre-Match Report

Why the match in Bodø could be a high-scoring one

When Borussia Dortmund kicks off their second matchday in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening at 9 p.m. in an away game against FK Bodø/Glimt, goals are almost guaranteed: In the 17 BVB matches played so far since the group stage was introduced, 75 goals have been scored—that’s 4.4 goals per game! In the Black and Yellows’ most recent away match in Norway, there were even seven goals, including a historic comeback. Here are our facts for the match in Norway.

Serhou Guirassy Could Move Ahead of Harry Kane

Serhou Guirassy is on the verge of another remarkable milestone in the Champions League: The BVB forward could secure sole possession of fourth place on the list of the top scorers after their first 30 appearances. In 29 matches so far, Guirassy has scored 21 goals, putting him on par with Harry Kane. Ahead of him are only Erling Haaland with 35 goals in his first 30 appearances, Ruud van Nistelrooy with 26, and Filippo Inzaghi with 25 goals. Just one more goal would see Guirassy move past Kane.

Only one BVB loss against Norwegian teams

Borussia Dortmund has an exceptionally strong record against Norwegian teams. Out of seven matches, BVB has won four, drawn twice, and lost only once. That lone defeat dates back to October 1999, when the Black and Yellows lost 0–3 at home to Rosenborg Trondheim. At the same time, matches against Norwegian teams regularly produce plenty of goals: In the seven games played so far, a total of 37 goals have been scored—an average of 5.29 goals per game against Norwegian teams.

Historic Comeback Against Odds BK

BVB’s most recent away match in Norway, in August 2015, turned into a historic comeback. In the first leg of the 2015–16 UEFA Europa League playoff round, Borussia Dortmund fell behind against Odds BK earlier than ever before in European competition (first minute) and, within a record 22 minutes, found themselves down by three goals. Nevertheless, Borussia turned the game around and won 4–3—to this day, BVB’s only international victory after trailing 0–3. Four shots hitting the woodwork in that match also set the club record for a single European Cup game. In the second leg, Borussia Dortmund prevailed 7–2; the nine goals scored in total made the match the highest-scoring game in BVB’s European Cup history at that time.

Plenty of scoring threats, but only a draw in the first matchup

Even in their first match against Bodø/Glimt in December 2025, BVB created plenty of scoring chances and dominated large portions of the game. From Dortmund’s perspective, the final stats showed 3.19 to 1.38 expected goals, 22 to 7 shots on goal, 63 percent possession, and 51 percent of duels won. Despite these clear statistical advantages, the match at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK ended in a 2–2 draw. Julian Brandt put BVB ahead in the 18th minute, before Aleesami equalized shortly before halftime. Brandt restored BVB’s lead in the 51st minute, but Hauge scored the equalizer in the 75th minute.
