Pre-Match Report

Kovacs Praises Schlotterbeck’s Effort

Konstantinos Karetsas remains sidelined, while Nico Schlotterbeck receives special praise. That’s the roster update ahead of the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt (Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m., live on Sky and the BVB app).

All the players who traveled with the team came through the match in Baku unscathed. “We had the day off from training yesterday. That was also very important after the many kilometers we had to cover,” said BVB coach Niko Kovac.

Konstantinos Karetsas had already been sidelined earlier in the week due to a ligament injury in his foot and will also be unable to play against Eintracht. Kovac could not yet say whether he would be an option for Tuesday’s cup match against Bremen. Kaua Prates has minor muscle issues. Justin Lerma remains sidelined with a more serious muscle injury.

Nico Schlotterbeck returned early from national team duty with an ankle injury but was back on the field immediately after the international break. He sat out only the match against Bodø/Glimt as a precaution to manage his workload. Regarding the center back, Kovac says: “He experiences pain in his ankle every now and then. It may not be 100 percent healed yet. But you can see how important he is to the team, how he gives his all. Every single game gives him the opportunity to improve physically.” (cr)
