Four BVB Players in Action in International Matches – No Winner in the Borussians Showdown

Matchday 4 of the UEFA Nations League featured a true Borussians showdown. Several BVB first team players also took the field in the other matches on Sunday evening.

In Thessaloniki, the German national team faced Greece in Group B. The match featured a Borussian showdown: Waldemar Anton started the game and played the full 90 minutes. In the 46th minute, his club teammate Konstantinos Karetsas also entered the game.

The German national team showed determination in the first half and pressed for the lead, but a supposed goal was disallowed due to a handball. In the second half, with Karetsas now on the field, Greece grew stronger. In the end, the match ended in a scoreless draw.

In the other Group B match, the Netherlands defeated Serbia 2–1. Joey Veerman, who had drawn attention in the first half with a spectacular shot from 16 meters, was substituted in the 58th minute.

Meanwhile, Portugal secured an early spot in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 victory over Norway. Fabio Silva sat on the bench for the entire match, while Julian Ryerson was not in the Norwegian squad.

In the match between Kosovo and Austria, the two teams played to a 1-1 draw. Carney Chukwuemeka did not play for Austria.

In the U.S.’s 3-0 victory over Mexico in a friendly, Mathis Albert entered the game in the 88th minute. From the bench, he had to watch as Cavan Sullivan broke his own age record, set just four days earlier: Against Chile, the Borussian player had scored at the age of 17 years and 131 days. At 17 years and five days, Sullivan is now the youngest goal-scorer in U.S. national team history.
