Pre-Match Report
“Bring some energy to the field!”: BVB Women Host Bottrop
The scenario
With a 5-0 away win at DJK Südwest Köln, the BVB women extended their winning streak on the last matchday. According to Markus Högner, this was also made possible by an improvement in performance in the second half: “The Cologne team played well at the start and pressed higher up the field than expected. With our three substitutions at halftime, the game took on a new dynamic, allowing us to execute our counter-pressing more effectively and successfully put pressure on the opponent.” With 21 points, the BVB Women continue to lead the Regionalliga West standings, remaining undefeated.
Roster
Emilia Pauls and Marina Scholz were part of the second team’s roster last weekend. “Both have recently been training fully with us again and are on the right track,” said their coach. “With the second team, they can now gain valuable playing experience again after their injury breaks.” A decision on whether Ronja Leubner—who has been slightly under the weather due to a cold—will play will be made at the last minute.
Opponent
The women of Rhenania Bottrop, promoted from the Niederrheinliga, are still waiting for their first points in the new division: With seven losses in seven games, they currently have a goal difference of minus 28. According to Markus Högner, however, this fact does not change their usual routine: “We’re preparing meticulously as always; we’ve conducted a video analysis of the opponent and trained very hard this week. We want to take that energy and that will to win with us and bring it onto the field at Rote Erde on Sunday.” The goal is to put pressure on Bottrop for the entire 90 minutes and create scoring chances with bold offensive plays.
Building Confidence
This also applies to the matches coming up for the Black and Yellows in late fall: BVB will face their current closest rivals—1. FC Recklinghausen, Schalke 04, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and VfR SW Warbeyen. The team hopes to secure a strong starting position early on at Strobelallee to tackle these challenges. “Now it’s about building the confidence we need for the decisive phase of the first half of the season,” explains Markus Högner. “That happens game by game, because the league still has a few challenges in store for us through November.”
