Konstantinos Karetsas Leapfrogs Lars Ricken

Despite being outshot 15-10, Borussia Dortmund earned a narrow but well-deserved 2-1 home win over Seville-based Real Betis, continuing a recent trend. Moreover, the game caused a change to BVB's list of the youngest goalscorers in club history.

Borussia has now won its last five UEFA Champions League matches against Spanish clubs, all of which took place in Dortmund.

Konstantinos Karetsas scored his side's goal for 2-1 at 18 years, 11 months and 16 days old, thereby leapfrogging Lars Ricken and claiming fifth place on the list of youngest UCL goalscorers in BVB history. The club-internal ranking is led by Jude Bellingham (17 years, 9 months and 16 days), who is trailed by Christian Pulisic, Felix Passlack and Jadon Sancho.

“I can live with it,” said Ricken, who scored his first UEFA Champions League goal at 19 years, three months and eight days old, finding the net in an October 18, 1995, clash with Steaua Bucharest. “Finally — his first goal," said Ricken of Karetsas' game-winner against Betis. He really put in an excellent performance. Whenever he had the ball, he did something extraordinary with it. In the end, his goal made the difference as well.” (br)
