On the other side, four stands were really in the mood for an emotional night of soccer. Even in the central section of the typically reserved East Stand, fans spent more time on their feet than seated, and in crunch time\u2014when the Black and Yellows secured their narrow but well-deserved 2-1 victory over Real Betis\u2014they were standing behind their team anyway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been in Dortmund for three months now. The atmosphere was just incredible again today,\u201d marveled Joey Veerman, and Jobe Bellingham couldn\u2019t stop raving. \u201cIt feels like we swept them off the field with the crowd\u2019s help. When you run toward the South Stand, it\u2019s just magical for us in the Champions League,\u201d said the young Englishman. \u201cThe fans helped us incredibly. The Yellow Wall is fantastic on every occasion. He was supposed to be brought on gradually after two substitutions, but following Serhou Guirassy\u2019s injury less than 30 minutes into the game\u2014and the resulting absence of Borussia Dortmund\u2019s \u201cMr. Champions League\u201d (21 goals and 12 assists since the league phase began in September 2024)\u2014the Greek player had to take the field much earlier than originally planned. \u201cI was pumped full of adrenaline because of the atmosphere. In games like this, you\u2019re ready to go even if you haven\u2019t warmed up properly,\u201d he said afterward in an interview with BVB-TV.<\/p>\n<p>The substitution almost didn\u2019t happen at all. At first, it looked as though Guirassy would be able to continue playing, and when the forward did briefly return to the field after receiving treatment\u2014and Karetsas was ordered back to his seat on the bench\u2014he went\u2026 to the restroom.<\/p>\n<p><img data-assetref=\"33-Kovac-1793879296741\" src=\"/content/dam/bvbweb/en/news/2026/11/05/ucl-nachbericht/33-Kovac.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to bring him in, but he wasn\u2019t there,\u201d coach Niko Kovac reported: \u201cThen I wanted to bring in Carney (Chukwuemeka, ed.), but then he suddenly came around the corner after all. So he was lucky to have gotten back in time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, both the coach and the players were lucky.
