Borussia Dortmund sign Kaua Prates

Borussia Dortmund have signed Kaua Prates for the 2026/27 season, which kicks off in the summer. The Brazilian underwent his medical this week and signed a long-term contract until 2031.

Kaua Prates is under contract with Cruzeiro until the summer. In 2019, the now 17-year-old joined the youth setup of the Brazilian first division club and made his debut in the first team at the age of 16 in May 2025. Since then, the left-back has played 17 competitive matches for the first team. The Brazilian youth international won the South American U17 Championship with the Brazilian U17 national team last year.

Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Lars Ricken, explains: “In Kaua, we have signed an extremely exciting player. He is still very young and is one of the most talented players in South America. We are convinced that his skills, ambition and potential for development make him a very good fit for Borussia Dortmund.”

Sporting director Sebastian Kehl emphasises: “We are very pleased to have signed Kaua. He is a highly talented player who is very versatile and can play in several positions in defence in different systems. His strength in one-on-one situations, his robustness and his mentality will certainly strengthen our team in the coming season.”

Kaua Prates says: “I am very proud to be playing for this great club from the summer onwards. I am really looking forward to it and will give my all from day one in Black & Yellow to be successful with BVB.”
