Borussia Dortmund to compete in 2026 Franz Beckenbauer Supercup

Borussia Dortmund are set to compete for their first title of the new season this summer: as Bundesliga runners-up, BVB will face double winners FC Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup on 22 August 2026. The competition, which has been officially known as the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup since last season, is traditionally held before the start of the Bundesliga season.

With their victory over VfB Stuttgart in Saturday evening’s final, FC Bayern Munich secured the DFB-Pokal trophy to add to their German league title. In the event of a double, the Bundesliga runners-up face the champions and cup winners in the Supercup.

The match is scheduled for 22 August and will be played on the weekend of the first round of the DFB-Pokal. The venue has not yet been confirmed. Both clubs will play their first-round DFB-Pokal matches at a later date.

For Borussia Dortmund, this marks their 15th appearance (including both official and unofficial editions) in the Supercup. They have already faced FC Bayern Munich in the competition on eleven occasions – most recently in 2021, when BVB lost 3-1 at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. The Black & Yellows have won the clash between the league champions and the cup winners a total of six times, most recently in 2019. (cr)
