Borussia Dortmund bolster their squad by signing Jacqueline Meißner

The BVB women’s team are delighted with their latest signing as Jacqueline Meißner is joining Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer for the 2026/27 season from SGS Essen, who were relegated from the Bundesliga this season. The 32-year-old Dortmund native has signed a contract with BVB until 30 June 2029.

“Jaci is a true leader who always gets stuck in. This quality, combined with her experience, makes her a huge asset to Borussia Dortmund. She is versatile in defence, lively, quick, strong in the tackle and has excellent heading ability,” says BVB coach Markus Högner of Meißner, whom he coached for a total of 11 years at Essen.

Jacqueline Meißner made 327 competitive appearances (16 goals) for SGS Essen, making her the club’s record appearance holder. Meißner has been captain of the Lila-Weißen since 2021 and reached the DFB Pokal final in both 2014 and 2020. Under national coach Steffi Jones, she also made three international appearances for the German women’s national team.

For Jacqueline Meißner, the move to Borussia Dortmund is “something I’ve been really looking forward to”. She added: “It was always a goal of mine to return to my home town. It’s simply the best thing ever for me and my family that I’ll be able to wear the BVB shirt from this summer.”
