Defending Champions in the PLIC: Here are the group matches for BVB’s Youth Team

Borussia Dortmund’s youth team will once again compete in the Premier League International Cup (PLIC) during the 2026–27 season. BVB will enter the prestigious tournament as the defending champion. The groups for the 2026–27 PLIC have now been drawn.

As the draw determined, BVB will face the English clubs FC Fulham, Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Nottingham Forest.

Thomas Broich, sporting director of the NLZ, had this to say about BVB’s return to the Premier League International Cup: “We participated for the first time—and won right away. That was extraordinary. Now we’ll see how far we can go this time. With Fulham, Aston Villa, Leicester, and Nottingham, we’re facing four teams we’ve never played before.”

The PLIC is a competition for U21 teams that brings together 16 English youth teams and 16 top international clubs in group and knockout rounds—for a total of 32 teams. BVB typically fields a mix of U19 and U23 players. The age rule stipulates that all field players—with two exceptions—as well as the goalkeeper must have been born after 1 January, 2005.

All matches take place in England. In the group stage, the top two teams from each group advance to the quarterfinals. In the event of a tie in points, the standings are determined first by goal difference, then by goals scored, and finally by a fair play ranking.
