BVB and fans stand united: 50+1 is non-negotiable!

As the 64th Bundesliga season begins, BVB and its fans feel it is important to highlight the Federal Cartel Office’s decision regarding the 50+1 rule. Following a lengthy legal process, the Federal Cartel Office had ruled that the 50+1 rule is, in principle, lawful. This decision was discussed in detail during the most recent Fan Council meeting on 19 August. There was unanimous agreement that the Federal Cartel Office’s fundamental assessment is expressly welcomed.

Since its introduction in 1998, the 50+1 rule has been a central pillar of German professional soccer. In line with a member-led club culture and sustainable business models, it forms the basis for a unique selling point that significantly sets the Bundesliga apart from its international counterparts.

Borussia Dortmund and its fans firmly support the 50+1 rule and its long-term preservation. We therefore expressly welcome the Federal Cartel Office’s fundamental assessment.

We are convinced that this is the way to ensure the long-term success of German soccer. This is also why BVB firmly enshrined this principle in its bylaws and code of core values many years ago.
