Karetsas wows the crowd at the gyros stand
Eleven-year-old Rafael was the first to greet Konstantinos Karetsas with a big smile on his face at the “Olympia-Grill.” The young soccer player of Greek descent from the Nordstadtliga had received an invitation with his family to come to Kamen-Methler near Dortmund to meet the new BVB player in person.
Karetsas was immediately greeted in his native language and chatted in Greek with little Rafael, his parents, and snack bar owner Christos Metaxas and his family. Little Rafael is sure to be one of Karetsas’ biggest fans at BVB from now on—after all, he also got photos, autographs, and the new jersey to top it all off.
Gyros and fries between photos and autographs
The 18-year-old newcomer from KRC Genk then spent just as much time in front of the snack bar, where a large crowd had already gathered. People had followed a post on BVB’s social media channels announcing that something special would be happening that Monday afternoon at the gyros restaurant in question.
And so Borussia’s new midfielder spent an hour posing for photos and signing autographs, remaining visibly cool and relaxed despite the 34-degree outside temperature: “Everything’s great, everything’s easy,” said BVB’s new number 19 between two selfies with the fans.
For the waiting BVB supporters—including many children accompanied by their parents—the wait was made literally more enjoyable with the house specialty. In total, the “Olympia-Grill” handed out around 250 freshly prepared “Taxi Plates” (gyros with currywurst and fries) with to the numerous Black and Yellows, who had livened up the tranquil town of Kamen-Methler for an hour and welcomed Dortmund’s new signing with applause and plenty of encouragement.
Once all the autograph and selfie requests had been fulfilled and the last “Taxi Plates” had been handed out, it was time for Kosta Karetsas to head back to Dortmund.
After another introductory meeting there—with, among others, Alexandra Popp and Manuela Zinsberger from the BVB Women team—his first day as a new Borussia Dortmund player was gradually coming to a close.
Kosta Karetsas will soon begin training with the team and meet his new teammates for the first time—the players who returned from the BVB Evonik Japan Tour on Sunday.
