Konstantelias suffers a torn cruciate ligament

Borussia Dortmund will have to do without new signing Giannis Konstantelias for an extended period. The midfielder suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during his Bundesliga debut against Hamburger SV yesterday, Saturday, and will consequently be sidelined for several months. The 23-year-old Greek national team player went down in midfield in the 52nd minute and had to be substituted shortly thereafter. In the first half, Konstantelias had scored his first goal for BVB (45+1).

BVB Managing Director of Sports, Lars Ricken, says: “This news hits us hard, because Giannis has already shown in a very short time why we see him as a great player for Borussia Dortmund. For now, however, his and our focus is on his recovery. Giannis has our full support.”

The entire BVB family stands behind Giannis and wishes him a full and speedy recovery!
