Postgame Quotes: “Shows That We Have a Great Squad"
Niko Kovac (on Sky): “Life writes the most beautiful stories. Maxi Beier isn’t with the national team, but today he was the one who scored. I’m thrilled for him, and it ultimately shows that we have a great squad and a great player in Maxi, and that he has rewarded himself with this goal today. Now, he can take a few days off and work from home.”
Ole Book (in the mixed zone): “It was the tough away game we expected — definitely one of the most challenging games so far this season. We’re very pleased with our performance, and obviously with the result as well. We showed of a lot of good components of our game and played really well against a team that is capable of dominating many opponents at home. It was an evenly matched game, but at the end of the day, our superior efficiency and stronger defending inside the box secured the win for us. There's a reason the team conceded very few goals last year. This time around, we look extremely solid again. Many patterns of play, especially inside our own box, are the product of hard work.”
Waldemar Anton (on Sky): “If you compare today’s game to our game here last season, we played with a lot more control, were much better going forward, and allowed very little defensively. Of course, you expect Stuttgart to make a late push at their own stadium. We allowed one or two headers during that phase, but nothing dramatic, and we could have sealed the deal at the end. We’re enjoying this moment. We’ve earned it. We played some really good and composed football.”
Maxi Beier (on Sky): “First and foremost, we had to keep a clean sheet here at Stuttgart, and we did so emphatically throughout the 90 minutes. It was a great pass from Jobe [on the goal]. For a forward, nothing's better than only having to say thank you.
