BVB Women Stay on Track for Success

On the sixth matchday of the Regionalliga West, the Borussia Dortmund women’s soccer team secured another victory. The league leaders defeated FSV Gütersloh 6–0 at Rote Erde Stadium. Alex Popp and Ramona Maier each scored twice, while Lena Ostermeier netted her first goal for BVB. The visitors also contributed an own goal.

Lineup

Compared to the previous away game in Freudenberg, Jacqueline Meißner and Annika Enderle started in place of Lena Ostermeier and Ronja Leubner. Marina Scholz was out due to adductor problems.

Match Report

The BVB Women took control from the start and took an early lead. Ann-Sophie Vogel, who had extended her contract with BVB through 2029 earlier in the week, crossed the ball from the right flank to Jacqueline Meißner. Her pass into the center found Alex Popp, who scored from about ten meters out to make it 1-0 (3').

Meißner was also involved in the second goal. Her pass, via Ricarda Walkling, found Ramona Maier, who extended the lead to 2–0 (12th minute). The Dortmund women continued to dominate the game. A goal by Maier in the 24th minute was disallowed because FSV goalkeeper Leah Blome had already secured the ball. Further chances by Rita Schumacher, who hit the crossbar, and Alex Popp, whose free kick sailed just over the goal, went unused.

In stoppage time of the first half, the BVB Women then added two more goals within a few minutes. Following a corner kick by Schumacher, Gütersloh’s Emma Maria Bendix deflected the ball into her own net to make it 3–0 (45’+1). Shortly afterward, Popp headed the ball in with the back of her head to make it 4–0 (45’+4).

Even after the break, BVB remained the team clearly in control of the game. Annika Enderle, Rita Schumacher, and Ricarda Walkling had a combined chance to make it 5–0 in the 48th minute, but the goal didn’t come until just before the hour mark. Following a give-and-go between substitute Lena Ostermeier and Popp, Ramona Maier got a shot off and scored her second goal of the day (61').

Gütersloh continued to struggle to create chances on the Dortmund goal. Instead, Enderle had the next good opportunity with a powerful shot that hit the left post (76'). Ostermeier put the finishing touch on the match: After a layoff from Meißner, the substitute midfielder scored from 16 meters out to make it 6-0 (82'), marking her first goal in a BVB jersey.

Post-Match Comments

Head Coach Markus Högner: “Looking at the entire 90 minutes, we have every reason to be very satisfied. Even with a 4–0 halftime lead, I urged the team to keep creating chances and scoring goals. In the second half, we were a bit too frantic at times, but we’re happy about the decisive victory and the fact that we’ve kept a clean sheet. By November at the latest, we’ll face crucial league matches, and we’ll be preparing for them in the coming weeks.”

Ann-Sophie Vogel: “The talks regarding my contract extension went very well. After my first two years at BVB, it quickly became clear to me that I’d like to continue on this journey together, especially since we have such a high level of play within the team. Now that we’ve had six wins without conceding a goal, we’re continuing to take it one game at a time—because the top matches are still ahead of us.”

Outlook

This coming Sunday (4 Oct), the BVB Women face another away match. At 3:30 p.m., the Black and Yellows will take on DJK Südwest Köln on the artificial turf field at Unterer Komarweg in Cologne. Tickets are available at the box office on game day starting at 1:30 p.m. (5 euros). Additionally, Pluto TV will broadcast the match live and for free.
