Ayman Azhil to stay until 2027

Midfielder Ayman Azhil will stay with the Borussia Dortmund U23s beyond the 2023/24 season. The 23-year-old signed a contract until 30 June 2027 on Friday.

"I feel very comfortable here, am really happy to have such an opportunity here and am very excited about the future," said the 1.75m-tall midfield strategist. The German-Moroccan completed a transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to BVB last summer. Azhil only needed a few matches in order to acclimatise and was a constant in the starting line-up by Matchday 16 at the latest.

The Düsseldorf-born midfielder scored five goals and notched three assists in 28 appearances in the 3. Liga. "He made his mark on our game, will be an important component next season and should establish himself as a key player," said Ingo Preuß, the sporting director of the U23s.
