Terzic hoping for Malen, Adeyemi and the rub of the green
Boris Rupert reporting from Manchester
Back then Erling Haaland was still part of the BVB team, though he failed to find the net. Marco Reus levelled at 1-1 in the first leg in Manchester, with Jude Bellingham making it 1-0 in Dortmund. "City deserved to go through in the end," said Edin Terzic at the press conference – but his team proved themselves worthy opponents in both 2-1 defeats.
"Erling has made Manchester City even more dangerous and even stronger," said Terzic of the opposition, who possess "unbelievable quality and power" and are "among the top favourites in the Champions League. They consistently pick up 90 points in the strongest league in the world."
In the video analysis session with the team, the coaching staff will focus on the most important aspects of Guardiola's team. "We want to filter out the things we absolutely need to avoid, the no-goes – and focus on the strengths we need to show and the things we need to do in order to hurt them, which they won't want." That includes tempo-play on the flanks. "Speed is always important in modern football," said Terzic, who is hoping he can count on the recently injured duo of Karim Adeyemi and Donyell Malen. "We still have two training sessions on site. We hope they will give us the thumbs-up and be ready to play."
In addition, the head coach is hoping for the necessary "rub of the green, and Alex Meyer will need to have a blinder. Because Man City are capable of scoring four goals against any opponent in the world." With or without Haaland, who Terzic will greet warmly. "We're looking forward to seeing him again. And we're hoping he doesn't score. We'll certainly do everything we can to stop him."
