The facts on the match against Darmstadt

Borussia Dortmund will face SV Darmstadt 98, who are “above the line” in the away table, in their final Bundesliga match of the 2023/24 season on Saturday (15:30 CEST).

The scenario: Fifth vs. 18th in the table. The final placements of both teams are already confirmed.

Home/away: Borussia Dortmund have failed to score in only one of their last 10 Bundesliga home games. Darmstadt 98 might have won just one of their last 12 away games – 2-0 in Cologne on 20 April – but have picked up almost twice as many points on the road (11) as they have at home (six).

Head-to-head record: BVB have scored at least two goals in eight of their 10 competitive matches against Darmstadt (09 times in the Bundesliga, once in the DFB-Pokal). In total, there have been 37 goals (almost four on average); BVB have scored 27 of those 37 goals. Borussia have not lost any of the five competitive meetings in front of their home support, but do not have a good home record in the league (two wins and two draws).

Statistics: The 5-1 against Augsburg was BVB’s only victory in the last four competitive matches. Darmstadt have lost their last three games in a row, have won only one of their last 26 matches and are the team with the fewest victories overall (three).

Biggest home win: BVB claimed their biggest win of the 1981/82 season when they beat SV Darmstadt 98 4-0 on 17 October 1981. All the goals came in the second half: Rolf Rüssmann made it 1-0 in the 49th minute, with Manfred Burgsmüller adding the second and third goals in the 61st and 72nd minutes. Rüdiger Abramczik rounded off the scoring seven minutes from time. (br)
