A euphoric welcome from 500 fans awaited coach Nuri Sahin's team at Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand's capital Bangkok.

However, his cross was blocked by the defense. Bayern Munich had more possession in the opening stages but failed to register a shot on goal.

After more than ten minutes, the Borussians seemed poised to take control of the match. Serhou Guirassy had his first shot on goal, but Samuele Inacio had deflected Karetsas’s previous cross from an offside position, and Guirassy’s shot sailed over the goal anyway.

After that, however, the momentum shifted in favor of the visitors, who managed several shots on goal. Aleksandar Pavlovic took the most dangerous one, but Gregor Kobel made a confident save (14th). BVB made it into the box once during this phase when Kosta Karetsas played a cross-field pass to Julian Ryerson. Inacio thought a teammate was behind him, so his pass rolled into empty space (24th).

Instead, the visitors’ dominance paid off: Following an assist from Michel Olise, Nathaniel Brown scored from 16 meters out in a central position to give Munich a 1-0 lead. BVB nearly responded immediately, but Svensson, unmarked after a cross from Ramy Bensebaini, missed the ball entirely (32nd).

Four minutes later, Gregor Kobel made a brilliant save to prevent the score from becoming 0–2, deflecting a shot by Luis Diaz around the post. Although the ball ended up in the net following a header by Bensebaini, it was ruled offside (43rd). Shortly before halftime, the visitors had several more top-notch chances: Brown (43rd) and Olise (45th) were initially denied – but then Olise cut into the penalty area and scored from a tight angle to make it 2–0.

After the break, it took five minutes for the Borussians to press for a goal. New signing Giannis Konstantelias, who came on at halftime, immediately made his mark with a bicycle kick (52nd). In the same minute, his Greek national teammate Karetsas nearly scored the second goal, but Neuer deflected the ball wide of the goal with a save. Shortly afterward, the two failed to finish off a promising counterattack. Karetsas’s time on the field was then over. He was replaced by Joey Veerman, who also made his debut in Black and Yellow.

Bayern Munich was no longer as dominant offensively as in the first half and managed only one shot on goal, courtesy of Harry Kane. His attempt in the 66th minute sailed just over the crossbar.

Dortmund’s offensive efforts, however, paid off: On a quick attack down the left flank, Fabio Silva slotted the ball across the line to make it 1–2 (75th). Two minutes later, Kane could have restored the previous lead, but his shot sailed just over the goal.

Shortly before the final whistle, events unfolded rapidly: Kobel made saves against Pavlovic and Olise. Silva then saw his header stopped by Neuer, and Bellingham was unable to capitalize on a mistake by the goalkeeper. In the 90th minute, Bensebaini was sent off with a red card after committing a foul. Olise ran toward Kobel but was stopped at the last moment. On the other end, Beier, completely unmarked, squandered the best chance to tie the game. Three factors are working in tandem here: higher revenue, lower squad costs, and reduced operating expenses.

In his first financial results press conference as spokesperson for the BVB Board of Management, Carsten Cramer put the figures and the current situation into perspective: “We actively used the complicated, challenging, and extremely complex past season to work on our structural deficits, identify strong growth potential even more clearly, and position BVB to be even more independent of transfer activities and better prepared for the future. We’ve emerged from last season stronger than ever.”

The financial position of the only publicly traded Bundesliga club remains robust, as BVB Managing Director Thomas Treß explained: “The net loss of over 20 million euros is not satisfactory for us. At the same time, our equity remains at around 300 million euros, the equity ratio exceeds 50 percent, no new financial debt was incurred, and no overdraft lines were drawn upon.”

The Sponsorship and Hospitality division is also performing well: Total revenue in this area rose to 170.3 million euros during the reporting period from 1 July, 2025, to 30 June, 2026—an increase of 7.3 million euros compared to the previous year. Three strong new partners—Vodafone, Polestar, and Lenovo—were secured for the past season. The collaboration with REWE was expanded through an innovative model as a training wear partner. Among others, partnerships with Evonik, Pluto TV, Hankook, Atlas, and Coca-Cola were extended. More than 500 companies are now part of the BVB Business Network.

BVB is growing steadily and continues to invest in its infrastructure capabilities. Evidence of this includes the consistently sold-out SIGNAL IDUNA PARK and approximately 90 million social media followers across all channels. The purchase of the property for the new health and wellness center has been completed, with the opening scheduled for the first half of 2028. Further expansions at the Dortmund-Brackel site include, among other things, the construction of a new training facility for women’s soccer as well as additional improvements for the men’s and youth programs.

Black and Yellow’s overarching vision for the new season and the coming years is clearly defined: “We are a robust, strong organization with over 1,000 employees, the highest sporting ambitions, and tremendous growth potential. We look forward to being measured against these goals over the next twelve months,” said Carsten Cramer.

Vanity URL (LEAVE EMPTY FOR AUTOMATIC VANITY URL.
